Frequently asked questions

How are Chinese characters counted?

Each CJK character counts as one character and as one word, which matches how Chinese word count is usually reported.

Why is the byte size larger than the character count?

UTF-8 stores non-ASCII characters in two to four bytes, so accented letters, CJK text and emoji take more space than one byte each.

Is there a text length limit?

There is no hard limit. Very large texts stay responsive because counting and word frequency are computed in a single pass.
